O'Neil She was in her high school times at the time of the auditions, volunteered for Canadian Idol's 3rd season during the first months of 2005. She advanced to the top 100 round because the judges were thrilled with her performance. Her performance was highly applauded by jury. But, O'Neil suffered a significant defeat in her Top 10 as well as the Top 9 final weeks when she received votes for the lowest 3 and the second lowest. The judges were surprised at her performance and advised viewers to choose contestants who sang well and had a strong voice, like Melissa. O'Neil has been consistently delivering stellar performances ever since, has always finished in the third place. She was the judge. Werner was confident, following two other breathtaking performances, that O'Neil would be the winner from this year's Canadian Idol competition, as being the first female and youngest in show history after the 7th September Finals of 2005. O'Neil received a call shortly after her win from Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, congratulating on her win of Canadian Idol.
